This month our business after hours will be on February 22, 2017 at 5:30 at Brooks Hydroponics. This is a free event for members to meet and network with each other.  To highlight this event we are sharing some information regarding hydroponics.

Hydroponics is the art of growing plants without soil.  It is a simple concept of giving the plant exactly what it needs when it needs it in the amount that it needs. This will cause the plant to be as healthy as genetically possible. Using hydroponics this is an easy task, in soil it is a little more difficult.

When using hydroponics the plants are grown in an inert growing medium. This could be rock wood, perlite, vermiculite, coconut fiber, gravel, sand, or many others. The growing medium doesn’t supply any nutrients to the plants. All the nutrients comes from the nutrient solution that consist of water and fertilizer combined. This makes it easily to control everything the plant receives.

The average home hydroponics system usually consists of a few basic parts: a growing tray, a reservoir, a submersible pump to water the plants, a simple timer, a air pump and air stone to oxygenate the nutrient solution and of course a light source-natural or artificial.
